Compare HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2

HTC prefaced their new Android Smartphone HTC Sensation in India, a week after the launch of Samsung Galaxy S2. Now the question is-which one you like better. At a glance, both look the same; “1.2GHZ dual core processor, 4.3 inch screen, Android 2.3 and a price around 29. 5K INR ($660)”. But in our side-by-side comparison the Galaxy S2 outstripped the Sensation, although the later comes with an improved Sense user interface.

From the last few months we were working on a online mobile comparison and price search tool for Mobiclue.com. Today we are introducing the pre-final version of the application for public testing. You might have already noted the changes in home page and the sub pages of the blog. We analyzed a few other leading Mobile websites and their offerings to formulate a quick idea of what people are looking for. This application has three main modules; a specifications page, simple price search tool, and an advanced mobile comparison page.

HP and Palm today announced webOS 2.0 and the new Palm Pre 2 smartphone. The webOS 2.0 is the first major update to the Palm propitiatory mobile OS after its acquisition by HP in this year. The webOS 2.0 upgrade will be available for Palm Pre, Palm Pixi phones, as an update in the coming months. The Palm Pre 2 will be the first phone in the market with webOS 2.0 pre-installed in the device. The Pre 2 has revised specifications and almost the same design of the Palm Pre Plus. The Palm Pre range  is mainly designed for the CDMA networks like Sprint,  but the GSM version is also available in Europe and with AT&T network in USA. The Sprint customers in US will not get the Pre 2 as the exclusivity of the device is now assigned for Verizon Wireless.

Dell today unveiled their first Windows phone 7 based smartphone Dell Venue Pro. Earlier known as the Dell Lighting, Venue Pro looks very similar to its Android brother the Dell Thunder. Dell Venue Pro has a 4.1 inch wide, AMOLED captive touch screen, which supports multi-touch inputs. Apart from this, Venue Pro has a QWERTY keypad fixed in the portrait orientation. We all expect a landscape keyboard in such a device  with huge screen, but Dell managed to incorporate a four row keyboard in Venue Pro, which is easy to access operate. Dell Venue Pro meets the demands of the new Windows Phone 7 OS with 1GHZ Snapdragon processor.   There is touch sensitive  menu, back and search keys at the front side, and a 5MP camera with LED flash in the rear side.

Microsoft chief  Steve Ballmer announced the features of upcoming Windows mobile 7 OS at MWC Barcelona. The new OS platform will be known as Windows Phone 7 Series . Though started development much earlier, Microsoft Windows mobile hasn’t had major changes in recent years. The very recently announced Windows mobile 6.5 was also unimpressive in features. Android, Apple iOS , Symbian, Maemo etc. took this as advantage and implemented the latest technologies for mobile devices. That resulted in more and more applications in these platforms. And naturally people chose those phones than Windows mobile. The new Windows Phone 7 Series platform has been designed considering the requirements of modern life.

We all know Moblin and Maemo, Linux based open source operating systems supported by Intel and Nokia. Maemo is mainly used to develop user interfaces  for mobile devices. Whereas the Moblin is used to power Intel atom based netbooks. Nokia already have successful phones like N900 running in Maemo.  As per today announcement, Nokia and Intel will combine their efforts on Maemo and Moblin operating systems to develop a new OS called MeeGo. The MeeGo OS would be able to run on multiple devices netbooks, tablets, mobile devices etc.

Palm Pixi price and plans on Sprint

Palm and Sprint announced the next Web OS powered smartphone for its US customers . The first Web OS device Palm Pre gained good attention form public. Palm Pixi is slightly lower end phone when compered with its predecessor. Its visually longer and thinner. Major specifications of the device includes 2 mega pixel camera, inbuilt QWERTY keypad and selectable background covers like Dell Studio laptops. GSM versions of Palm Pre smartphone is now available in Europe . But still we don’t have any information on the official launch of the Palm Pre smartphone in India and other Asian countries. So its better not to make any assumptions on price of Palm Pixi in India. The US version of the device will be available from Sprint from this November 15 for US$ 99.99 with 2 year contract .
