Finally, MNP has become a reality in India. MNP or Mobile Number portability let users to change mobile network without changing their number. So those who kept their connection only for the sake of the number can now switch to a different operator of their choice. In India, Airtel is the largest mobile provider, and they manage around 30% of connections out of 650 million. New GSM providers like Tata Docomo, Uninor, Videocon, were waiting for the MNP launch to take their subscriber base to the next level. Today MNP was launched in Haryana, and it will be available in other parts of the country by January 2011. BSNL and Tata Docomo has announced attractive offers and tariff plans for customers willing to switch to their network using MNP. The procedure, charges for MNP in India and offers from some operators are given below.

Indian mobile service providers will implement this facility from December31, 2009 in metro cities and by March 2010 onwards, in other parts of the country. MNP is firstly available in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and ‘Circle A ‘service areas at first and rest of the country by March. Department of Telecom (DOT) earlier selected two companies Telcordia Technologies and Syniverse Technologies to aid them in rolling out MNP services.

MNP( Mobile Number Portability ) is a service that helps the customer to change to their favorite mobile operator without changing phone number. Talks on implementation Mobile Number Portability in India began almost two years back. Now the service is almost ready to be rolled out. As per Department Of Telecom (DOT), MNP service in India will be launched by the end of December in some selected cities and networks. Customers in the supported network would be able to keep their mobile number moving to a new network. There will be small activation time and charge associated with this switching.
