Sony Ericsson is always known for incorporating the popular Sony technologies in their mobile devices. The trend started on Sony Ericsson mobile phones with Walkman and then Cybershot range of camera phones. The latest among them is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smartphone that was announced today at the MWC in Barcelona.  Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is an Android smartphone designed for gamers. It is one  first Sony PlayStation certified mobile gaming device and the first for its kind in the Android mobile range. The device has a hinged slide-out gaming pad with suitable keys.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has all the features of a high-end Android smartphone. The specification list includes 1 GHz Scorpion ARMv7 processor, 5MP camera, up-to 32GB Micro-SD support( 8GB included), 400MB internal memory, and a 4 inch capacitive touch screen.  Included  processor is much powerful that it supports 3D games up-to 60fps. The slide-out panel in Sony Ericsson Xperia Play reveals D pads, touch pads, shoulder buttons, etc. that could make the gaming as good as in a PlayStation device. It comes with Android 2.3 OS and over which a custom Sony Ericsson UI, and gaming related application are included. At present, the number of games in the Android market is very less when compared to the iOS app store. Introduction of Sony Ericsson Xperia Play would bring more and more game developers to Android platform. Sony has included a Xperia Play app in this smartphone with which users find and download games optimized for their devices directly from the Android market place and the proposed Sony Ericsson store.

Xperia Neo

Sony Ericsson today announced the upcoming availability of an Android smartphone Xperia Neo at the mobile world congress Barcelona. Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo is based on Android 2.3, and it is closely related with their CES announcement Ericsson Xperia Arc in terms of its specifications. The device has a newly designed Sony Ericsson TimeScape/MediaScape UI and has Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread features. Xperia Neo has a 3.7 Reality display, a latest Sony Ericsson display innovation the brings exceptional image quality at lower battery consumption. It also features the Bravia Mobile technology for crystal clear videos and images using special processing algorithms.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo has an HDMI port that could be used to connect it with HDTV, and it also support instructions from standard remote controls.  The external design of Xperia Neo is very pleasing from all sides. It’s a fit to hand device specially designed for taking images. There is an 8MP camera that comes with Sony’s Exmor R sensor for better pictures at low- high light conditions.  The front aligned  2MP camera can be used for video calls. Xperia Neo has 320MB of internal memory and up-to 32GB Micro-SD card support and 8GB card is included in the package. The device uses a Snapdragon 1GHZ processor.

The price  of Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo was not announced at the press event. But we hope that it won’t exceed the normal Smartphone price plan @ $199 in USA. Experia Arc

Sony Ericsson today  announced the upcoming availability of a super phone, Xperia arc at the annual CES in USA. The Sony Ericsson arc will be the next flagship product in the Xperia family of smartphones that are using Google’s Android OS platform. Currently, we have Xperia X10, Xperia X10 pro and Xperia X10 mini in this range, and all are using Android OS 2.1 Eclair with custom Sony Ericsson UI. The first thing we will notice in Xperia arc is the sleek, stylish design and curved rear side. Sony Ericsson uses a special display device in Xperia Arc that they call a Reality Display. The display is supported by Sony’s Bravia Engine Mobile, a technology that will deliver crystal clear images and videos by nose reduction, color management and other enhancements.

Reality Display in Xperia Arc is of 4.2 inches and has 854 x 480 pixels resolution. It is externally covered with a scratch-resistant glass. The front side buttons in the Arc resemble old Xperia models. Coming to OS, Arc will be shipped with Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread and is upgradable to OS 3.0  Honeycomb when it comes out. The 8MP camera is another great feature in Xperia arc. It uses Sony’s Exmor R sensor that provides high-end picture quality, better sensitivity and low noise in all atmospheric conditions. The  device supports HD video recording at 720p, and has a front video camera of VGA quality.

When looked at the internal side,  Xperia Arc is driven by a pretty old 1GHZ Snapdragon processor and there is around 512MB of RAM. The package includes an 8GB card, and the storage is expandable  up-to 32GB using Micro-SD slot. The data transfer options of Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc shows a Micro HDMI port for connecting with external HD device.  Other notable specifications of Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc includes 3G at HSDPA, Bluetooth with A2DP, Accelerometer, proximity sensors,  TimeScape/MediaScape UI, FM Radio, GPS, Bar code scanner, Document reader, Li-Po 1500 mAh battery, Digital compass, inbuilt Google Mobile apps, etc.

Sony Ericsson will launch Xperia Arc in the first quarter of 2011. The price and other details of Xperia Arc are not yet announced. But considering the specifications and the normal Sony Ericsson pricing strategy for new products, we believe that it would cost around $750.

Xperia X8

Sony Ericsson yesterday added another member to their expanding portfolio of Android phones, by announcing Xperia X8. The new Xperia X8 comes after Xperia X10, Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 pro announced last year. The Sony Ericsson Xepria X8 has a size that fits in between Xperia X10 and X10 mini. Earlier known as Sony Ericsson Shakira, Xperia X10 has pretty old Android 1.6 OS with custom Sony Ericsson interface that is being used in other models. The Sony Ericsson UI widgets like TimeScape and MediaScape are also available with  Xperia X8.  This quadband GSM, 3G phone would be available at a very competitive price as per the initial reports.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 uses Android OS 1.6, at the same time most of the latest phone models use version 2 and above.  This has reduced the capability of the phone in certain aspects. Especially the browser and the hardware speed and support for latest web and technologies are limited when in comparison to HTC phones.  However, Sony Ericsson TimeScape and MediaScape add special functionality to Xperia X8.  In TimeScape, all the updates from Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and social media services, email and messages are arranged to single window like UI. Sony Ericsson TimeScape uses a special transition effect to view tweets, updates and messages. The TimeScape UI can be customized to opt out or add social services and view them in separate tabs. The MediaScape in Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 brings all music, videos and images in a single place. The MediaScape can also download images from Facebook and Picasa account of the user. Sony Ericsson is working on Android 2.1 update for all its Xperia models. So the Xperia X8 would also get the latest software update in few months.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 has a pretty standard 3.2 MP camera with video recording, but no flash. It has 3 inches capacitive touch screen with 320 x 480 pixels resolution and 16M color support. Its processor is 600 MHZ with 128MB internal memory. The storage of Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is expandable up to 16GB and 2GB card is included in the package. Other features of Xperia X8 include accelerometer sensor, 3.5 mm headphone jack, Bluetooth with A2DP, FM radio with RDS, A-GPS, WIFi, YouTube, Facebook and Google apps, Li-Po 1200 mAh, etc.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 will be launched in the third quarter of 2010 for an expected retail price of 200 EUR. So when if launched in India, the Xperia X8 will cost around 12000 INR.

The official specifications of Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 will be available on November 3 . Now we have the partial specifications of this dream phone, based on a leaked brochure.

According to the brochure, Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Rachel will have a the same 1GHz Snapdragon processor that is used in Acer Liquid and Motorola Droid. It would be the second phone to host Android OS 2.0 . Besides this Sony Ericsson XPERIA  X10 would also include 8.1 mega pixel auto focus camera with HD imaging, massive 4 inch capacitive touch screen and 32GB internal memory .

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Rachel price in India :

Sony Ericsson XPERIA  X10 will be the first Android phone to include a camera that is more 5 mega pixels.  Considering other factors like the processor, inbuilt memory and screen size , we expect the India price Sony Ericsson XPERIA  X10 to be around 35000-37000 INR.

Update: T-mobile UK announced their price plans for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. They provide this phone free for £35 plan with 24 months contract.
