Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer announced the features of upcoming Windows mobile 7 OS at MWC Barcelona. The new OS platform will be known as Windows Phone 7 Series . Though started development much earlier, Microsoft Windows mobile hasn’t had major changes in recent years. The very recently announced Windows mobile 6.5 was also unimpressive in features. Android, iPhone OS, Symbian, Maemo etc. took this as advantage and implemented the latest technologies for mobile devices. That resulted in more and more applications in these platforms. And naturally people chose those phones than Windows mobile. The new Windows Windows Phone 7 Series platform has been designed considering the requirements of modern life.

HTC today announced an Android based smartphone, Legend at MWC 2010 along with HTC HD mini and HTC Desire. HTC Legend is considered to be an update for existing HTC Android phone HTC Hero. HTC Hero was the first high profile Android phone with 5MP camera and HTC sense UI. Powered by the latest Android 2.1 version and new updated HTC sense UI, HTC Legend is expected support multi-touch and Flash. The major attraction of HTC Legend is its full metal body that offer great external appearance and protection against accidental drop. HTC Legend is too impressive in the specification side. It has a 3.2 inch AMOLED display, 5MP camera and 600MHZ processor.

HTC HD mini announced at MWC

HTC today announced a scaled down version of its flagship Windows mobile device HTC HD2 as HTC HD mini at MWC 2010. HTC HD2 launched last year is the smartphone with the biggest screen. HTC HD2 is based on Windows mobile 6.5 and has HTC Sense UI over it. HTC HD mini has the very same design of HD2, but has smaller screen size. HD2 has multi-touch in its browser and some other applications. It is first such experience in Windows mobile device, made possible using HTC Sense. The same HD2 experience will be available in HTC HD mini with small changes in specifications. It is designed as an alternative for those who cannot afford the price of HD2.

HTC corporation today announced a new handset, HTC Desire at MWC Barcelona. The HTC Desire is an Android based device that has looks and specs similar to Google Nexus One. HTC uses a new Sense UI over the Android OS. The very special about the updated sense UI is that comes with full support for Flash 10.0. So HTC Desire is nothing but a Nexus One with Flash and familiar user interface all HTC fans would love. On specification side, HTC desire has 1GHZ Snapdragon processor, 5MP camera, 3.7-inch AMOLED display and many other things we have seen with Nexus One. HTC Desire will be available from the second quarter of 2010 in Europe and Asia.

Intel and Nokia announced MeeGo OS partnership

MeeGo OS from Nokia and Intel

We all know Moblin and Maemo, Linux based open source operating systems supported by Intel and Nokia. Maemo is mainly used to develop user interfaces for mobile devices. Whereas the Moblin is used to power Intel atom based netbooks. Nokia already have successful phones like N900 running in Maemo. As per today announcement, Nokia and Intel will combine their efforts on Maemo and Moblin operating systems to develop a new OS called MeeGo. The MeeGo OS would be able to run on multiple devices netbooks, tablets, mobile devices etc.

Samsung today announced first Bada based mobile device called S8500 Wave at MWC Spain. Bada is Samsung’s home grown operating system. The Bada in Korean stands for ocean. So that might be the ocean of features, applications, phones or whatever Samsung plans with its OS. Samsung has proved this with the very first Bada phone. Though, the application count may seem low at this point, the hardware specification of Wave is promising. Samsung Wave includes a new 3.3 inch AMOLD capacitive touch screen with 16M color support and 480 x 800 pixels resolution. Wave is one of the first device to include Bluetooth 3.0 that provides much faster data transfers. The device would be quite fast as it packs the new ARM 1GHZ processor.

Sony Ericsson today added two more handsets to its Xperia portfolio by announcing Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 pro. The announcement took place along with Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro, at MWC 2010. The original Xperia X10 announced last year is the upcoming flagship product of Sony Ericsson running Android operating system.Both Xperia X10 mini and Xperia X10 pro have almost similar design of Xperia X10, but are smaller in size, price and of comparatively lower specifications. Xperia X10 mini has only touch navigation. Whereas the Xperia pro has slide-out QWERTY keypad for easy typing and editing. Both have 2.55 inch TFT touch screen 240 x 320 pixels resolution and 65K color support.
