Almost all mobile device manufactures are coming with their own internet devices. The trend started with Archos and JooJoo tablets, later the segment got much attention when Apple released iPad. Research In Motion (RIM) also joined the league, today by announcing new tablet device called BlackBerry Playbook -at the BlackBerry DevCon 2010. Blackberry Playbook will be powered by a new OS BlackBerry Tablet OS and a dual-core ARM CPU. BlackBerry Tablet OS is based on the UNIX operating system QNX. RIM’s move to the QNX platform is not surprising. Microsoft, Nokia and a few other companies are also in the process of redesigning their smartphone OS to meet the demands of new generation customers. Research IN Motion (RIM) today announced BlackBerry Torch 9800, a new smartphone for AT&T customers in USA. BlackBerry Torch is the first BlackBerry mobile device to feature the all new BlackBerry OS 6.0 update. It is also the first BB touch smartphone with a sliding QWERTY keypad. BlackBerry Torch 9800 got its name from the web-kit based Torch browser, that RIM acquired from a start-up, Torch Mobile. BlackBerry Torch is a 3G device with 5MP camera and all the goodness of BlackBerry OS 6.
Research In Motion (RIM) hinted on the development of Blackberry OS 6.0, the upcoming OS that will power existing and new BlackBerry smartphones. The present version, Blackberry OS 5.0 was released at the end of last year, and is now available for Blackberry Storm, Storm 2, Bold and other smartphones. The new Blackberry operating system will offer a combination of social media, multimedia and business productivity features. RIM hasn’t provided any details of phones that will get BlackBerry 6.0 upgrade or the dates around which final version would be available for download.
Research In motion limited (RIM) will shortly announce BlackBerry Pearl 9100 (striker), forthcoming member of BB Pearl smartphone series. BlackBerry Pearl 9100 is considered as the successor of BB Pearl 8110 and 8120 launched in 2007 and 2008. The BlackBerry pearl series has a candybar design with QWERTY keypad. This design makes the Pearl series of smartphones, small in width and fit in hand. BlackBerry Pearl’s fans are waiting for an upgraded version of their phone on both hardware and software side. Research In Motion limited (RIM) announced the availability of Blackberry OS 5 software update for its Storm 9530 series and other selected Blackberry smartphones. Blackberry OS 5 development that started early this year, had completed its definite stage development and is now ready to be rolled out. Verizon Wireless is the first operator to announce OS 5 update to its Blackberry Storm 9530 customers in US. OTA updates are not available at this time. So Windows and Mac users should install Blackberry desktop manger, and then download and proceed with the installation of Blackberry OS 5. RIM also released a list of Blackberry devices compatible with OS 5 update. The upcoming Blackberry smartphones Bold 9700 and Blackberry Storm2 will be shipped with Blackberry OS 5 pre-installed .
RIM’s Blackberry series of Smartphone were traditionally known as business phones, until they released Storm in late 2008. The Blackberry Storm is the first touch enabled Blackberry phone, with large high resolution screen, better connectivity, and new Surepress technology that bring keypad like experience in touch enabled handsets. However, many users complained about the non responsive touch screen of Blackberry storm, which makes numerous errors while typing on it. Since the heart of Blackberry is messaging, the storm failed to impress people in several aspects. Moreover, the original storm lacks Wi-Fi connectivity. RIM later fixed several issues with Storm and released Blackberry Storm 2. The new device was launched in US on October of 2009. Blackberry storm 2 includes a redesigned Surepress technology, Wi-Fi and Blackberry OS 5.0. There will be two models of Blackberry Storm 2, 9550 and 9520 based on the network connectivity available in different regions.
RIM is set to announce the all new Blackberry Bold 9700 smartphone in US (T-mobile) and some other European countries by November of this year. Blackberry Bold 9700 aka Blackberry Bold 2 or Oynx is in news for the last few months . The new Blackberry Bold is planned to be released along with Blackberry Storm2 , the WiFi enabled and enhanced version of flagship product Storm . We earlier covered the recent Blackberry device , Blackberry Tour and India release of Blackberry 8520 through Airtel . Blackberry Bold 9700 will be powered by the latest Blackberry OS 5 ,which was in test for the last few months .
